OnlyFans age verification starts with one 18+ rule for every account. However, the checks differ a lot. Creators always show ID. Fans may face an email check, a selfie or an ID scan, depending on where they live.
OnlyFans age verification is now part of almost every sign-up. Yet many fans and new creators still do not know what gets checked, or why. This explainer uses the official OnlyFans terms and privacy policy, plus Fansly’s help centre and recent press. It covers who gets checked, what each step collects, and where checks are triggered.
Who OnlyFans Age Verification Covers
First, the rule itself is simple. The OnlyFans Terms of Service say a fan must be at least 18 years old. Fans must also be able to sign a contract and be legally allowed to view content where they live.
The method of checking, though, depends on your role. The OnlyFans Privacy Policy (last updated June 2026) splits users into three groups:
- Fans: all must be 18+, and some must also verify identity, based on location or account activity.
- Creators: always complete a third-party age and identity check before the account opens.
- Content collaborators: anyone featured in a creator’s posts goes through the same third-party check, and may sign a release form.
How Fans Get Checked: The Three-Step Ladder
Before a fan account starts, OnlyFans asks for basic account data and payment card details. It also checks your country of residence. After that, the privacy policy describes extra steps for certain locations. They run from light to heavy.
- Email address age estimation. A third party estimates whether you are over 18. It does this by checking websites and apps where your email was used before.
- Facial age estimation. If the email check fails, or is not allowed where you live, you may be asked for a short selfie clip. The policy says this only estimates age and is “not used to recognise you.”
- Age and identity verification. If an estimate wrongly puts you under the threshold, you may be offered a full check. This means a government ID plus a selfie, matched by the provider.
For the estimate steps, OnlyFans says it only receives a pass or fail result and the reason for a fail. Notably, it does not publish a list of which places trigger which step. So the prompt on your own screen is the real answer for you.
What Creators Submit for OnlyFans Age Verification
Creators face a much stricter check, because they get paid and appear in public. The terms require creators to upload “a valid form of ID and two photos of you.” They must also add payout details and submit more age or identity information “any time we ask for it.”
In addition, the OnlyFans Creator Center lists a legal name, date of birth, mailing address, a selfie holding your ID, social handles and bank details. US creators also file a W-9. After approval, accounts face regular “selfie checks.” For fees and payouts, see our OnlyFans review.
Where the Checks Are Triggered
Location drives most fan checks. In the UK, OnlyFans told Ofcom that fans must complete age assurance and add a valid payment card before a subscription starts. Meanwhile, the US picture is changing fast. Jaded MGMT (18 October 2026) counted 27 US states with age-check laws, citing the Free Speech Coalition’s tracker.
Ohio shows how this works in practice. According to WKBN’s February 2026 report, OnlyFans told Ohio’s attorney general it “implemented age verification for all users at the end of September” 2025. The company said it uses the user’s IP address to “trigger the appropriate onboarding process.” For the wider legal map, read our age verification laws explainer.
How Fansly Compares
Fansly takes a similar route. Its help centre names Ondato as its verification partner. Fans in the UK, Australia, Brazil and Germany get a prompt, usually at login or when opening adult content.
The flow starts with a live selfie. If Ondato needs more assurance, you may be asked for a government ID and a selfie match. Fansly says Ondato does not store the selfie or ID, and Fansly only receives an “age verified” confirmation. Creators, by contrast, verify with ID and selfie photos on the Fansly Creator Hub.
OnlyFans Age Verification and Your Data
Privacy is the fair worry here. On the plus side, OnlyFans states that face data “is collected by and remains with our third-party provider.” It says it never holds that data itself. You can also ask to withdraw consent to that data being kept for later re-checks.
On the other hand, identity records may be kept for a long time. The policy says record-keeping and tax rules mean retention “in some cases is up to 7 years.” As vpn.social’s age verification guide notes, even third-party checks leave data with someone.
Finally, follow a few safe habits:
- Start any check from inside your own account on the official site or app.
- Never send ID photos by DM, email or social media.
- Use a current, unexpired ID if a full check is requested.
- If a selfie estimate fails, take the official ID route instead of opening a new account.
In short, the checks are a legal duty, not a personal judgement. Adults who use the official flow usually pass in minutes.
